NightCap – A Major Step Forward For iPhone Night-time Photography

We all know that cameras struggle in low light. As the sun sets your photos become dark and grainy – especially with the tiny camera in the iPhone!  The solution is to give the camera time to catch more light – longer exposures in photography terms. Until now that hasn’t been possible on iOS, but new app NightCap brings genuine long exposure to the iPhone and iPod touch with iOS [...]

It’s Photography But Is It Art?

Photo by  Jun Moore It is very common to come across the terms “Photographic Art” and “Fine Art Photography” in reference to the work of renowned photographers who have created an individual style of photography that is popular and attractive. But what really turns a simple photograph into a piece of art? There have been many debates on this topic and the terms “Photographic Art” and “Fine Art Photography” have had [...]

End Of Photoshop In Cosmetic Ads?

If you have had enough of those exaggerating advertisements on TV about how a mascara can make your eye lashes look ten times longer and thicker, or you have been fooled into buying a foundation because the airbrushed photo look amazing, you will be glad to hear this. Now U.S. is following the footsteps of the UK to ban the use of airbrushing with Photoshop in advertising when it is [...]

Tutorial On How To Take Beautiful, Dreamy Photos of Children

Photo and tutorial by Fernand Hick (1) CONTEXT AND PICTURE This image has a long history; it’s a combination of two photos. Both original images are color slides, digitalized through scanning and kept in files…waiting for inspiration. The landscape was photographed on a spring day in 1991 with a 500 mm fixed f/8.0 mirror lens. It was taken at ground level trough low branches, full of spring blossoms. I so [...]

Photographer Paul Moore’s Amazing iPhone Photos

When I first stumbled upon Paul Moore’s photos, I didn’t believe they were taken and processed only with an iPhone. Being a strict DSLR believer and camera snob, I often find myself sniggering at people who point and shoot with a cell phone.  Anything without an interchangeable lens shall not, to me, be classified as a (decent) camera. Fortunately I saw Paul’s photos first before reading the caption, otherwise I would have turned away [...]

Insanely Beautiful Star Trails Photos

These photos are not digitally produced, they are the amazing work by Australian photographer Lincoln Harrison who spent up to 15 hours creating each photo with long exposure. He uses Nikon D7000 and Nikon D3100 with different lenses to capture foregrounds and backgrounds separately, sometimes producing hundreds of photos, and then blends the photos together to achieve these surreal results.  You can view more of his photos here. via petapixels

Pushing The Visual Art Boundary – Ben Heine Art Show Part IV: Flesh and Acrylic

“Flesh and Acrylic” is Ben’s latest project (started in 2011). Ben creates abstract acrylic paintings on large wooden panels. The main idea is to create a surface blending the model with the background. Indeed, the particularity of the project resides in the fact that a living person is integrated in the artwork and is part of the whole composition. The end result is often wild and very colorful. Once the [...]
